R.E.M. will release a live CD/DVD, the first ever of their 27-year career. Titled R.E.M. Live, the 22-track audio and visual package captures singer Michael Stipe, guitarist Peter Buck, and bassist Mike Mills doing what they do best at a dynamic show at the Point Theatre in Dublin, Ireland, on February 27, 2005.

Directed by Blue Leach (Depeche Mode), R.E.M. Live features songs spanning the band’s many studio albums, including the singles "(Don’t Go Back To) Rockville," (featuring bassist Mike Mills on lead vocal) from 1984’s Reckoning, "The One I Love," from 1987’s Document, "Orange Crush," from 1988’s Green, "Losing My Religion" from 1991’s Out of Time, "Everybody Hurts" and "Man On The Moon" from 1992’s Automatic For the People, plus a rare performance of "Ascent of Man" from the band’s last studio album, 2004’s Around the Sun.

As a part of this DVD, R.E.M. is re-launching www.remdublin.com as a Version 2, encompassing archives from their "Live Rehearsals" at the Olympia theater, as well as archival information and articles from their past stints in the Irish city. The site features user blogs, videos, photos and stories and allows R.E.M. fans the opportunity to browse through the archives while contributing to them.

One of rock’s best-selling and most critically acclaimed bands, the multiple Grammy-winning R.E.M., who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March, are currently in Dublin with producer Jacknife Lee (U2, Snow Patrol) recording their 14th studio album, to be released next year. In a review of a show during a five-night residency the band played at the Olympia Theatre in March, in which they tested out brand-new songs, Mojo magazine noted "at least five bona fide future classics" and that R.E.M. has "reconnected with what made them great." Q raved in its five-star review "It’s a thrill watching a great band rediscover its mojo."

Mixing recent and past classics, R.E.M. Live promises to tide fans over until the new release in 2008.
